This is my 11th year teaching at PJHS and 10th year teaching 7th grade science. I love teaching at this school and being part of the cat family. I am excited about the new group joining us. I know you are all nervous, but don't worry, we are all in this together. We have worked so hard to prepare a fantastic year that will hook you into science. We have a fantastic Science Lab that students will get to spend time in with amazing hands on investigations designed to make you fall in love with a subject you might not even know you liked yet! I am a Nationally Certified STEM Educator with micro certifications in Scientific Inquiry, Scientific Literacy, Scientific Thinking, and Scientific Argumentation. AMSTI trained, continuing education hours from Hudsonalpha training, and an additional 866 hours of professional development.
Before I came to Prattville, I was an Assistant Instructor for several university level science courses ranging from freshmen to seniors and science for non majors. While in the Ph D. program I received a fellowship from the Howard Hugh’s Medical Institute as a mentor to undergraduate students. I received a travel scholarship from the American Association of Immunologist to present a poster at a Dendritic Cell conference. I also, received another travel scholarship from the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science to present a poster during a national conference. Additionally, I presented to the National Institute of Health on a protocol I developed. I was also awarded a scholarship to attend a summer course in Philadelphia on immunology. During 2013, I was a National Institute of Health Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Surgery Department. They have all been wonderful experiences however, teaching is where my heart is. I could not be happier then in my classroom teaching these amazing Prattville Jr High schoolers.
7th grade science is life science, so this year is going to be an eye opening year. Life Science is all around us and in us and on us. It is an exciting field full of new and old information and expanding understanding. We will study Structure and Function of living organisms, and the Genetic Machinery that that makes our word so diverse, and Ecosystems and Their Interactions. It is an amazing time to learn this introduction to life science with lessons we hope you will remember.
Here is to a great year.
GO CATS!
